An Exercise in Soul Searching

I've done it.

I have admitted that I am unable to lose weight and get fit by myself. I just simply do not have the knowledge. Its a really big thing for me to admit that I cannot do something by myself or that I need help to do something like this.

But I've done it!! :D

Now all the hard work starts! I have officially joined the Michelle Bridges 12WBT Challenge The first round for 2013 starts is two weeks (11th Feb) and we are in pre-season at the moment. We have weekly challenges to undertake and a few extra bits here and there to help get us ready for the real thing! I am SO looking forward to giving this a 100% go! I have come to this a couple of weeks late, so my preseason is going to be a little .... condensed :) but Im going to give it a shot anyway!

I think the hardest thing, in the beginning anyway, is going to be sticking to the 1200 calorie per day diet. O.M.G that is going to be hard work!! Fortunately, part of the challenge package includes a set meal plan complete with shopping list. Its all calorie counted for you so you don't even have to think about it.

As part of the preparation for my first 12WBT I took my "before" photos today.. :'( Pictures I never thought I would be brave enough to take. I don't want to look like this. I don't want to feel like this.

A Special Trinket Box

I like making gifts like this! Because Im not making the entire thing from scratch, I'm just decorating so they’re so quick to do. I was tempted to do another altered letter, but I thought a box to put treasures in would be nicer, that way it wouldn’t be seen as a copy of anything I had already done.

I kept this project very simple as that is the style of the lady I gave it to. Highly decorated just isn’t her. This is a wooden trinket box that I found in a drawer in my craft room :) I gave the whole thing a layer of gesso then on the outside of the box I painted it in metallic purple. I went on to use the Tim Holtz crackle paint again (I love that stuff) then went over that with a bit of the same sprayed colour I used on the lid.

On the outside of the lid I found that I didn’t have the colour of paint that I wanted so I used two different glimmer mists to give me the colour. I wanted a dusky pink so I used Tattered Angels Vintage Pink and Rose Tea sprayed in several layers to get the desired effect.

To seal it all I painted it inside and out with clear crystal glitter paint that I had in my stash, so the whole thing sparkles :)

The flowers have been done pretty much the same as on the T for Tammie. The while ones are sprayed with Mr Hueys and the coloured ones with Heidi Swapp. This time I didn’t glitter the flowers, I just sprayed them. The Heidi Swapp sprays are Amethyst and Primrose. I am LOVING these sprays!! The shimmer is amazing!!

T is for Tammie

For a while now I’ve wanted to try doing an altered letter. I had a thought a few days ago that I could do one for one of the girls at work. So for the first one I have ever tried to do... T is for Tammie :) Eventually I think there will have to be an A for Amanda... but I can do that later :)

The T was white when I bought it and I tried to paint it with a crackle medium and then metallic blue paint. Yeah, that didn't work so well :( so I went over it with Tim Holtz white crackle paint and took to it with my heat gun. I still wanted the blue/purple colour to come through though so I rubbed purple distress ink into it to try and make it more the colour I originally wanted. I think it came out quite well. I will admit I didn’t like the colour when it was first dry, but the more I looked at it, the more I liked it.

All of the flowers I have used here are from I am Roses. I buy all my flowers white because if I buy them pre-coloured I never have the right colour and I have to alter them anyway ;) This way I can just spray them the colour I want and it forces me to use all the sprays that I have as opposed to hoarding them all! Most of the flowers here I have sprayed with Mr Hueys calico shine and then dusted with glitter that I had in my stash. The others have been sprayed with Heidi Swapp Tropicana Teal – which is fast becoming one of my favourite colours!

I made the stick pins myself and the little hanging trinket I bought at my local bead shop.

Tammie loved it :) When I take these little gifts to work to give out I usually wait until the person is away from their desk and I abandon the gift and make my getaway. That way its a total surprise for them when they get back. So this is what I did for Tammie. I still don’t know whether she knew it was me who left it or whether someone told her that I had been at her desk, but she came looking for me to thank me :)

December Daily 2012

I've been looking forward to doing this years December Daily for months :) and I've had it ready to for at least a couple of weeks!! This will be my second year with this project and Im hoping to learn from my effort last year. The main mistake from last year was the size I chose to print my photos. I went with 5x7in.... the only problem with that is I cant print that size at home, so I had to wait until I could get to the shop to do my pages. It majorly messed with my rhythm of working :) so, normal pictures this year!

I've chosen to use the Holly Jolly paper collection by Echo Park. I went with that one because of all the bright colours. In Australia, Christmas falls in the middle of summer so all the beautiful winter pictures and snowmen wont work for my pictures. I've also got a package of October Afternoon Christmas embellishments and some cards that Jennifer (from my FB craft group) sent me. A set of Echo Park stamps and some other bits and pieces and Im all good.

The O rings that are on there now will eventually be replaced. They're not going to be big enough, but they'll do for now. The inner pages are all index cards that I've covered with the paper on one side only. I love to journal, so the other side has been left blank to give me plenty of space.

Being the first of December, I got to start my album today.... woot!!! I'll cover that in the next post :)

A Scrapping Weekend!

This weekend just gone I had the pleasure of going to a scrapbooking retreat/camp that was hosted by The Scrapbook Store – one of my local online stores. It was the third one that I’ve been to, but this one was in a new venue after the disaster of the last one … -mice- is all Im going to say.

I was very lucky that Suzanne (our host) offered to pick me up after a family emergency meant my friend Margaret, who was driving, was unable to go. Thanks Suzanne!! :)

Because I have to travel in someone else’s car, I try and be organised with the project that I work on. This time I decided that I would finish my steampunk album, so I took almost everything I had that fit with the theme. I also decided that I would take a set of christmas papers and start putting together a small album if/when I finished the other album. Of course none of this prevented me from buying lots of stuff from Suzanne :)

Im Ready

It was at Swanleigh, in the swan valley. It's been both an orphanage and a school and it still hosts boarding students in one of its houses.

The Library or The Scrapping Hall as it became :)

Our stuff was all set up in the library. It was nice and roomy although I don’t think it would have taken more people without feeling squashed.
Hamilton House - Our Accommodation

My Room - basic, yet spacious :)

Our accommodation was also lovely. Obviously used to be a boarding house with the amount of beds in the house. It was spacious and clean, it had the biggest bathroom I’ve ever seen and it was rodent free!
Most of Suzanne Shop - paper, card & sale items are on the table behind me.

As usual Suzanne lugged her whole shop to the hall and we all made VERY good use of it :)
In full swing

Our Saturday night treat Pina Colada's freshly made!

Our other Saturday night treat. There was a storm coming and it created a beautiful sunset.

It was an awesome weekend and it was great to see people I recognised and to see so many new faces. I will definitely be at the next one!

A 60th Birthday Surprise Gift

A couple of weeks ago one of the girls at work celebrated her 60th birthday. Her idea was to let the milestone just slip past without notice or fuss…. I don't think so :)

I made her a mini album gift months ago and on the day of her birthday I gave her a card I made and a box of chocolates, so she really wasn't expecting another gift!!

My original idea had been to find a Kaisercraft mdf album in "60" and make it for her to commemorate the day. When I do these albums I put together a list of events, births and deaths from the year they were born and present it to them as a keepsake. It seems to go down well :) Unfortunately, this year, I couldn't find the "60" album with enough time to be able to put it all together, so I decided that I would wait until after the day and gather all the photo's and present it as a complete record of the day itself.

The Birthday Girl before the party started :)

The list of Notable Births for 1952

Party photos

We got off to a flyer!! Our work Birthday club morning tea was set for that day so we were into the cake and tea early! LOTS of photos were taken and about an hour after morning tea, we took the birthday girl out for lunch and an afternoon of fun at the casino.

A collection was taken at work and everyone signed a lovely card for her. We got her gorgeous flowers, a party balloon and a Chuck Norris t-shirt .... don't ask ;)

There are more pages in the album than this, but these are the best photos. Overall, she got spoiled rotten at work, we got her drunk at lunch and she rocked up at work the next day a little tired but without even a hint of a hangover! :D
